Best Water Purifier in India 2026

Stage counts and copper-alkaline badges fill the listings, but what decides a purifier is duller: whether RO or UV suits your water, and whether the brand actually services a dead unit in your city. We weight that over the spec sheet.

How to choose a water purifier in India

The water purifier aisle is a stage-count shouting match - “10-stage”, “RO+UV+UF+Copper+Alkaline+Mineraliser”, “TDS adjuster”. Most of it is marketing: copper, alkaline and mineraliser are often one post-RO cartridge split into “stages”. The first real question is your water. If you’re on borewell or tanker water with high TDS, you need RO to pull the dissolved salts down. If you’re on clean municipal supply under about 300 TDS, RO strips the good minerals too and wastes three or four litres for every litre it makes - a UV or UV+UF unit may be the smarter, cheaper buy.

The second question is the one that decides whether you’re still happy in year two, and it isn’t on the box: who services it. This is a higher-maintenance, higher-failure category than buyers expect - the recent reviews on almost every model, budget or premium, are dominated by service complaints, AMC disputes and filter-replacement bills that quietly dwarf the sticker price over three years. So we weight a real, reachable service network and the honest running cost over the spec sheet, and we’re blunt about the brands whose hardware is fine but whose after-sales is the actual product you’re buying.
