The aisle sells inverters on brand and headline VA numbers, but only two things on the unit actually decide whether you will be happy with it. The first is the waveform: a pure sine wave inverter delivers clean power that runs everything in a modern home - BLDC fans, a fridge, a TV, a PC - without humming or restarting it, while a cheaper square (or “modified”) wave unit makes fans buzz and can restart or stress sensitive electronics. For a home you want pure sine; square wave only makes sense if you genuinely run nothing but old ceiling fans and lights and want to save a thousand rupees. The second is the VA rating versus your real load: a “1000VA” inverter delivers roughly 700 usable watts, not 1000, so add up what you actually want to run during a cut and leave headroom - the number in the model name is not watts.
After that it is mostly the battery, which is a separate purchase and the part that sets your backup time and most of your cost - a great inverter on a tired battery is a torch with flat cells. The spec-sheet theatre to ignore is almost everything else: an LCD over an LED display tells you more but protects nothing extra, “intelligent” charging modes are table stakes, and a slashed MRP printed next to the street price is fiction.
