The aisle sells on two numbers - how many sockets, and how many metres of wire - and both are easy to print and easy to fake. The number that actually matters is never on the front: the cross-section of the copper in the cord, quoted in square millimetres. Match the board to its heaviest load, not to the number of things you want to plug in.
The second thing the box will not tell you is socket spacing. Nearly every complaint pattern in this category comes down to the same physical problem: a “6 socket” board where a single fat charger brick covers its neighbours, so you own three usable sockets, not six. Look at the listing photos for the gap between outlets, not the count. After that it is the boring stuff - individual switches so you are not power-cycling everything at once, a thermal trip or fuse that cuts power on overload, child safety shutters if there are children around, and a brand that will honour a warranty when the master switch dies in month eight. We weight cord gauge, real usable spacing and overload protection over surge-joule marketing, because a board that fails safely is worth more than a board that claims to stop a lightning strike.
