Best Yoga Mat in India 2026
The listing sells thickness and pretty prints. Owners quietly report a mat that slides the moment they sweat, an EVA surface that flakes, and a 13mm slab too wobbly to balance on. We rank mats on grip, durability and the right thickness - not the biggest number.

How to choose a yoga mat in India
The yoga-mat aisle is sold on the one number that matters least: thickness. Buyers read “13mm extra thick” as “best”, pay for the slab, and then discover it is too soft and wobbly to hold a standing balance, smells of rubber for weeks, and slides across the floor. The sweet spot for actual yoga is duller - 4 to 6mm - enough to spare your knees without turning every Tadasana into a wobble. Save the very thick mats for gym floor work and knee-heavy exercise, not asana.
What actually decides whether you keep using a mat is grip and durability, and both come down to material. Cheap EVA is light and slippery and flakes within months; NBR is cushioned but slick; TPE is the sensible eco upgrade if it does not delaminate; PVC and PU hold grip best and last longest; cork grips better as you sweat; and traditional cotton absorbs sweat and washes clean but offers no padding. The single most common complaint we read, across nearly every mat, is the same: it turns slippery the second your palms sweat. So we weight sweat-grip, whether the surface flakes or peels, and the right thickness for balance over the printed cushion number and the pattern on the box.
