How to choose a gaming console in India
Everywhere else in the world, choosing a console is a question about exclusives and controllers. In India it is first a question about supply. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all treat this market differently, and the gap between the three shows up as price and paperwork rather than performance. Sony sells here properly. Microsoft has all but stopped, which is why the Xbox you can buy today costs close to double what it does anywhere else. Nintendo has never launched here at all, so every Switch in the country arrived through an importer.
That reshapes what matters. A console’s list price is meaningless if the only sellers are grey importers, and a one-year warranty is meaningless if the unit was not marketed in India - owners have had claims refused on exactly that wording. So we check three things before we look at a single game: what the machine actually sells for right now against what it costs elsewhere, whether the listing carries a warranty that the manufacturer will honour on an Indian address, and what happens when it breaks in month fourteen. Games and graphics get judged after that.
What we ignore
Launch MRPs that no seller has honoured in years, teraflop counts, “4K” claims that turn out to be 4K at 30fps, and review averages pooled from other countries - the Xbox listing whose stars come from Brazilian buyers tells you nothing about buying one in Bengaluru.
